How CAMT Credit, Debit, and Reversal Signs Work

Interpret CRDT, DBIT, amount text, and reversal indicators without inventing signs.

Amount text is usually unsigned

The amount element commonly carries a magnitude. The CdtDbtInd supplies credit or debit direction, so adding a sign without that indicator is unsafe.

Reversals need explicit treatment

A reversal indicator describes reversal semantics; it should not be ignored or silently folded into a generic amount column without disclosure.

Keep currency attached

Signed values are meaningful only with their currency and row level. Never reconcile or aggregate different currencies as if they were one number.
